1. Classification of Computers (Work-Based)

Based on their working principle, computers are classified into three types:

  • Analog Computers
  • Digital Computers
  • Hybrid Computers

Digital Computers: These computers process data in discrete forms, specifically using binary digits (0 and 1). They are widely used for mathematical calculations and data processing in devices like laptops and smartphones.

2. Application Software & Package Software

Application Software is a type of computer program designed to perform specific tasks for the user, such as word processing, gaming, or web browsing.

Examples of "Package Software":

  1. Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  2. Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator)

3. Symptoms of a Computer Virus

Common indicators that a system is infected include:

  • Slow performance: The computer takes much longer than usual to start or run programs.
  • Frequent crashes: Frequent "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD) or unexpected system restarts.
  • Pop-up ads: Unusual and persistent advertisements appearing on the desktop or browser.
  • Missing files: Files or folders suddenly disappearing or being renamed without your action.

4. Computer Network & Types

A Computer Network is a collection of two or more computers and devices connected together to share resources (like printers and internet) and exchange data.

Types based on Geographical Area:

  1. LAN (Local Area Network)
  2. MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)
  3. WAN (Wide Area Network)

5. Creating and Renaming a Folder (Windows)

To Create a Folder:

  1. Right-click on an empty space on the desktop.
  2. Select New from the context menu, then click Folder.

To Rename the Folder:

  1. Right-click the new folder.
  2. Select Rename, type the new name, and press Enter.

6. Second-Generation Computers

Major Features:

  • Used Transistors instead of vacuum tubes.
  • Smaller, faster, and more reliable than the first generation.
  • Consumed less power and generated less heat.

Difference: The primary difference was the core component; First-Generation used bulky Vacuum Tubes, whereas Second-Generation used Transistors, which allowed computers to become significantly more efficient and compact.

7Multimedia is the integration of multiple forms of media to communicate information digitally.

Five Main Components:

  1. Text
  2. Audio
  3. Graphics (Images)
  4. Video
  5. Animation

Two Applications:

  • Education (E-learning and interactive tutorials)
  • Entertainment (Movies and video games)

8. Cyber Ethics & Protection

Provisions of Cyber Ethics are the moral principles and codes of conduct that govern the use of computers and the internet, such as respecting privacy, avoiding intellectual property theft, and not harming others online.

Methods/Tools for Protection:

  1. Antivirus Software: To detect and remove malware.
  2. Firewalls: To block unauthorized access from the internet.
  3. Strong Passwords: Using complex combinations of characters.
  4. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Adding an extra layer of security beyond just a password.
